Don't want a guide? Are you more of a solo adventurer? We have the trip for you! Boat rentals for fishing or just paddle play! Reservation cost include boats, paddles and PFD (aka life-jacket).  Additional rental items include: Tie Down Straps,  Hand Pump, Electric Pump, Shuttle, Tubes.  Life jackets are required for all river activities for ages 13 and below.  Booking in advance is required!!!! To book you must call or email us as this option is not available for online booking.

Cost:  Boat Rates below do not include required deposit of $350. The deposit is held until the boats are returned and inspected for damage.

Full day boat rates (24 hours): $55 per boat

4-6 hours (pick up at 10 AM bring back  by 4 PM): $45

Boat options: 

  • 6 hard kayak sit on top kayaks (great for fishing, complete with a place to hold fishing poles, not recommended for over Class II rapids). 
  • 6 inflatable Thrill-Kat Kayaks. Kayaks come blown up. If storage is an issue you can rent a pump. Hand pumps and electric available.  


  • 15 Tubes (cost with boat rentals): $18
  • 2 pumps (hand): $15
  • Electric Pump (connects to car battery): $30
  • Tie Down Straps: $8 each

Shuttle is also available for reservation. Cost for shuttle is $20 per person.  Shuttle subject to availability.

Thrifty Adventures has reached a milestone! We are growing rapidly!  We thank you for your continued support! In case you missed it, Thrifty is moving their center of operations to Hidden Holler Farm in Red Hill, Bakersville WNC. The farm is 7.5 acres, circa 1890’s and is rich with history! It is located a short walk from the North Toe River!

What to expect 4-1-2019! The new TA office and Tiny Hike Shop will be located in one of the many tobaccos drying barns. The hike shop will include items like water, snacks, sunscreen, river shoes, rain gear and other items typically needed for folks on our trips!
